I am passionate about becoming a social worker. Social work is a practical profession aimed at helping people address their problems and matching them with the resources they need to lead healthy and productive lives.
Beneath this practicality lies a strong value system that can be summarized in two words: social justice. Social justice is the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities. Social workers aim to open the doors of access and opportunity for everyone, particularly those in greatest need
Within the realm of helping those with the greatest need, my biggest passion is helping children to have all of the opportunities they deserve to grow into positive members of society. I will be starting my internship with Bethany in September. I will be working with older child adoption. Every child needs a loving, positive environment to live in. It's hard to expect a child to grow up to follow their dreams when they don't live in a safe and stable enough environment to foster their dreams of what they want for their futures. Children are our future! We as adults in society need to make sure that we are doing what is needed to make it possible for all kids to have their needs met in childhood so they can just be kids!
Wow Kim I don't envy you the work you do. Having worked very closly with many social workers here when I was a health visitor, it can be an extremely stressful and thankless job. However, in all that there are the amazingly profound experiences where you make a difference to a child/dren and they grow into incredible young people because of it.
